Hashim, First Republic minister, dies at 79

AREWA elders have expressed grief and shock on the death of an elder statesman and onetime Minister in the Northern Regional Government of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Alhaji Tijjani Hashim after a brief illness at the age of 79.

While mourning the death of Hashim, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammadu Ibrahim said that “the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Hashim was a Minister in the Northern Region under the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello and was given the title of Turakin Kano after the 1966 coup”.

According to him, the deceased who was also the most senior counselor in the Kano Emirate was later elevated to the position of Galadiman Kano. Alhaji Ibrahim remarked:  “he lived as one of the most influential Princes of Kano. He was a philanthropist and an adherent of culture and tradition whose influence was not only felt in Kano but the North in general”.

“ACF mourns the death of Galadiman Kano and prays Almighty Allah to forgive his sins and grant him Aljannah Firdausi. It equally extends its condolences to his immediate family, Kano Emirate, Government and the people of Kano State”.

Late Alhaji Hashim has since been buried according to Islamic rites in Kano.
