Amaju wins NFF election

Amaju Pinnick, Delta FC chairman, has won the NFF election held Tuesday afternoon in Warri after two rounds of voting.

Pinnick led other contestants with 25 votes in the first round, as Taiwo Ogunjobi polled 9votes, while Dominic Iorfa and Amanze Uchegbulam secured 6 and 4 votes respectively.

Femi Ogunode Wins Gold

Nigeria-born athlete, Femi Ogunode on Sunday, 28 September, 2014, won the Asian Games 100 metres gold in a new continental record time of 9.93 seconds despite wet conditions in Incheon, South Korea.

Ogunode, who also won the 200-400m double at the 2010 games, beat China’s Su Bingtan and Japan’s Kei Takase to second and third places respectively.
Hopes for an Asia-born athlete finally breaking the 10-second barrier sank with Su crossing in 10.10 and his Chinese team-mate Zhang Peimeng timing 10.18 in fourth.
Ogunode’s win is Qatar’s second athletics gold of the tournament, pulling them level in their shootout with fellow wealthy Gulf state Bahrain.

Odegbami cries foul, petitions FIFA

Ex-international, Chief Segun Odegbami, has filed a protest over his disenfranchisement by the Electoral Committee conducting the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elections billed for Warri next week.
In the protest to the Sports Minister Dr Tammy Danago­go which was also forwarded to world soccer governing body, FIFA insisted that the elections slated for Septem­ber 30 were not in line with FIFA’s directive, a situation, he argued, could plunge the Nigerian football into more crisis.
The protest letter made available to Saturday Sun­sports stated in part: “It appears that several stake­holders, including me, are disenfranchised. We are be­ing denied the opportunity to participate in a transparent and impartial election by the actions so far taken since the congress.”

Bolt denies foul-mouthed criticism of Glasgow 2014

(AFP) – Usain Bolt denied reports Wednesday that he called the Glasgow Commonwealth Games “a bit shit”, ahead of his appearance in the 4×100 metres relay.

The world’s fastest man accused The Times newspaper of “creating lies to make headlines” after it reported he rubbished the 2014 Games while waiting for a car outside the athletes’ village.

Asked he was having a good time in Glasgow, the Jamaican sprint star replied “not really” and said that the London 2012 Olympics “were better”, according to The Times.

But Bolt’s manager called the claims “rubbish” and the athlete himself took to Twitter to deny the report.

Olympic runner and WW2 prisoner Louis Zamperini dies

 Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner and American World War Two veteran who survived two years as a prisoner of war, has died at the age of 97.

He died peacefully on Wednesday after a 40-day battle with pneumonia.

"His indomitable courage and fighting spirit were never more apparent than in these last days," his family said in a statement.
